About Denim Day
In 1999, the Italian Supreme Court overturned a rape conviction, arguing that because the victim was wearing tight jeans, she must have assisted in their removal, implying consent. The next day, women in the Italian Parliament wore jeans in protest, sending a powerful message that jeans can never be an alibi for rape. Today, Denim Day has grown into an international statement against sexual violence and an opportunity for leaders worldwide to take a stand. Wear denim on April 30th to show solidarity. Opportunity to sit with a lawmaker during Assembly Floor Session, and schedule 1:1 meeting with their policymakers. Engage with advocates to support survivor-centered policies.
