We are thrilled to introduce Bridget as the newest addition to our team at Sierra Community House. Bridget joins us as a Grants Manager, bringing a wealth of experience and a fresh perspective to the grants team. The grants manager plays a critical role in writing and managing grants to ensure funding for the important work that Sierra Community House does in the community.
We connected with Bridget to learn more about her, here’s what she has to say:
What drew you to work at Sierra Community House?
I recently (like less than 2 weeks ago) relocated from Idaho, but I am originally from the Bay Area/ Santa Cruz Mountains. I have worked in the nonprofit world forever and strive to spend my career doing work that helps the community.
I started at an amazing organization called Exploring New Horizons Outdoor Schools that helped to connect kids with nature, and then when I moved to Idaho, I worked for Girls on the Run to tie in social emotional and physical health. That position brought me to The Hunger Coalition in Bellevue, Idaho that served Blaine County residents to help fight the root causes of food insecurity in collaboration with key partners. The community built within The Hunger Coalition and its partners parallels many of Sierra Community House’s services.
I have wanted to relocate to Reno because I want to be closer to friends and family and I love what the Reno/Tahoe area offers. I am thrilled to be a part of the Sierra Community House team and a new community member of the Reno/Tahoe area!
What does “community” mean to you?
Community is people from all walks of life who come together to share ideas, help each other out, and make the world a better place for others – everyone has something to share, and everyone has something to learn. It should be a safe place to laugh, cry, and be yourself. I think one of the very best ways to build community is to share food!
Tell us about what you like to do for fun! And/or: what is your favorite part about living in the mountains/near the lake?
I love to hit the trails with my Blue Healer, Dusty Spuds. Being new to the area will provide us a lot of fun new adventures! I also love to cook, garden, watch football, camp, travel, and live life to its fullest!
How do you prioritize self-care?
I make sure to get plenty of sleep and exercise daily to keep my mind and body strong so I can do my best at work and in life. I plan trips out in nature to unplug and be able to reflect and process how things are going. I make sure to check in with my core network regularly and take time for myself to rest and recharge.
Bridget is hopeful that Sierra Community House’s mission will continue positively impacting the North Lake Tahoe/Truckee community. By continuing to raise funds through grant awards, Bridget is confident to ensure our services reach those that need them most. Join us in welcoming Bridget to the team and supporting our mission of connecting and empowering our community through family strengthening, crisis intervention, hunger relief, and legal services.
