NTCA and Placer County Commit to $300,000 annually for three years to help local North Tahoe/Truckee workforce find, secure, and navigate local housing challenges

North Lake Tahoe-Truckee – May 27, 2024 — Sierra Community House, a nonprofit focused on empowering the North Tahoe/Truckee community through family strengthening, crisis intervention, hunger relief, housing support, and legal services, is grateful to receive a multi-year important funding through the TOT-TBID Dollars at Work program. Over the next three years, $900,000 from the North Lake Tahoe Tourism Business Improvement District (TBID) and Placer County Transient Occupancy Tax (TOT) funds will support Sierra Community House’s Housing Advocacy and Direct Assistance program that helps local workforce households to avoid eviction and sustain local housing.

The TOT-TBID Dollars At Work program aims to enhance community vitality and environmental stewardship and promote economic health in the stunning North Lake Tahoe region. This TOT-TBID Dollars At Work funding will expand Sierra Community House’s ability to meet the growing demand for workforce housing assistance.

The impact of these funds is already evident, with numerous individuals and families benefiting from the support provided. As of today, Sierra Community House has provided tens of thousands in workforce housing assistance.

“Sierra Community House is committed to empowering our community and would not be able to help as many people without the funding and support from insightful and forward-thinking organizations like NTCA, as well as Placer County, said Paul Bancroft, Executive Director at Sierra Community House. “We have already been able to help dozens of locals hold onto their local housing which shows the immediate impact this funding has had so far.”

This initiative comes at a crucial time as housing affordability remains a pressing issue in the North Tahoe/Truckee area. According to recent data, the median house price in the region has reached $1,135,000, illustrating the urgency of ongoing efforts to address housing insecurity.

“We’re proud to partner with Sierra Community House in an effort to ensure housing for Tahoe local workforce” said Tara Hetz, at North Tahoe Community Alliance.” Their various services provide a holistic approach to addressing inequalities in our communities, and we know they have their finger on the pulse of what our community members need to thrive.”

Sierra Community House is dedicated to continuing collaborative efforts to address housing challenges and ensure a thriving, inclusive community for all residents of the North Tahoe/Truckee region. This would not be possible without sufficient funding from organizations.
