As Sierra Community House takes the lead at Kings Beach Elementary, the trusted early learning and parent–child programs continue to nurture connection and school readiness across the region.

Truckee and Kings Beach, CA — Sierra Community House is proud to announce the seasonal reopening of its popular Family Room program in Truckee. Additionally, Sierra Community House's team is proud to take over the long-running and beloved Family Room program at Kings Beach Elementary School, which has been offered by Tahoe Truckee Unified School District and has long been a cornerstone for early learning and family support in the community.

The Family Room program offers a complimentary, bilingual early learning experience designed for parents, caregivers, and their children aged zero to four. Anchored in play-based education, the program nurtures school readiness by integrating activities such as reading, music, singing, play, and crafts. It strives to instill a love for learning, enhance language and cognitive development, and build confidence among participants. The Family Room also serves as a welcoming, safe space where parents can connect with peers, share experiences, and foster a sense of community and inclusion.

Both locations will operate from October 21, 2025 through May 28, 2026, 10:00 a.m.–12:00 p.m.:

  • Truckee Family Room: 11711 Donner Pass Road, Truckee (at KidZone Museum)
    • Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday
  • Kings Beach Family Room: Kings Beach Elementary School, 8125 Steelhead Ave. Kings Beach
    • Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday

"We've seen how much the Family Room in Truckee has meant to families with young children, whether it's building literacy skills, making new friends, or just having a safe place to play together," said Paul Bancroft, Executive Director of Sierra Community House. "We're excited to bring that same energy and support to Kings Beach and build upon the incredible program that TTUSD established."

Parents who have participated in the program emphasize its impact:

  • "My son struggled with severe separation anxiety, clinging to me and crying whenever I left the room. Luckily, the compassionate staff and engaging activities at the Family Room helped him build confidence and security. After just a few weeks he was eager to participate in activities on his own, share with others, and express his individual creativity."
  • "The Family Room provides not only a safe space for my daughter but also valuable parenting workshops and resources that have helped me feel more confident and supported in my parenting journey. We come from a diverse background, and the multicultural activities and inclusive environment have helped my daughter learn about and appreciate diversity."

Sierra Community House extends heartfelt gratitude to the individuals, organizations, and sponsors whose contributions have been integral to the Family Room's success. Special thanks to First 5 Placer County, First 5 Nevada County, Tahoe Truckee Unified School District, Truckee Optimist Club, Tahoe Truckee Community Foundation, Visión y Compromiso, and Lahontan Community Foundation. Their generous support and unwavering dedication have played a pivotal role in empowering families in the North Tahoe/Truckee area.
