The $400,000 Grant Helped 420 Tahoe/Truckee Workforce Households to Maintain Local Housing

May 29, 2025 | North Lake Tahoe–Truckee – Sierra Community House is proud to reflect on the impact of a $400,000 grant from The Martis Fund, which significantly strengthened our housing advocacy and support services over the past year. For more than a decade, The Martis Fund has been a steadfast supporter of Sierra Community House and our mission to serve local workers navigating persistent housing challenges in the Truckee and North Tahoe region.

This recent funding allowed Sierra Community House to sustain and expand eviction prevention efforts, provide direct financial assistance for rent and utilities, and deliver education around tenants’ rights and financial stability. Thanks to this support, Sierra Community House was able to help more than 400 Tahoe/Truckee Workforce households maintain local housing.

“We are deeply grateful to the Martis Fund for this generous grant,” said Paul Bancroft, Executive Director of Sierra Community House. “The housing landscape in our region remains incredibly challenging for working families. This funding enabled us to help residents stay housed, safe, and supported through holistic, people-centered services.”

In addition to direct assistance and eviction prevention, Sierra Community House’s multi-faceted approach includes benefit enrollment, household budgeting guidance, case management, and education around renters’ rights and responsibilities—services that are crucial to keeping families housed in one of California’s most cost-burdened regions.

This grant exemplifies the power of collaboration and the impact of investing in long-term solutions for housing insecurity.
