The Sierra Community House Board of Directors is thrilled to introduce our newest member, Sue Drake! The Sierra Community House Board of Directors is made up of key individuals who bring diverse expertise, deep commitment, and a shared vision to drive meaningful impact in our community. We connected with Sue, to learn about her background.

Tell us about your professional background and how it led you to this board position?

In my current role as Development Director for the Truckee River Watershed Council I’m facilitating donor-relations and fundraising to protect and restore the local watershed and reduce the uncertainties of climate change. Prior to that, I worked at Vail Resorts for over 10 years managing dozens of low wage workers who also needed support finding creative housing and transportation solutions in our region. I’ve also previously worked for the Fresh Air Fund providing life changing experiences to children living in New York City’s underserved communities, providing a safe space to develop trust, leadership skills and their own voice.

Who or what inspires you in your professional and personal life?

Nature inspires me. It causes me to be creative, feel capable, think from a different perspective, listen with intent and find more ways to be grateful. The quality of people in our community inspires me—especially the curious and kind helpers who strive to make our lives collectively better.

Sue will be participating in our local fundraising events and keeping an eye out for our local community’s passions and concerns. Her goal to connect more people to Sierra Community House’s mission has already begun and we are excited for the insights and growth she will bring. She said, “Each and every story of Sierra Community House’s impact sheds light on challenging life experiences and opens our eyes to new possibilities for a better future.”

In conclusion, Sue’s professional journey has been driven by a deep commitment to both people and nature. She looks forward to channeling this passion into her role as a Sierra Community House Board Member. By actively engaging with the community, she will bridge connections and amplify the impact of Sierra Community House!
