July has been a vibrant month filled with a variety of events that brought our community together to celebrate music, art, and wellness. Here’s a recap of Sierra Community House’s highlights:
Truckee Thursday
Every Thursday in the Summer, downtown Truckee transforms into a bustling hub of activity. Truckee Thursdays are a beloved tradition, where locals and visitors alike gather to enjoy live music, local artisans, food, and a lively atmosphere. This month, the Sierra Community House prevention team had the pleasure of attending. It was a great way to engage with our community and spread awareness about our programs.
Coyote Bluff Music Festival
On July 20th, David Galson hosted The Coyote Bluff Music Festival, which was an unforgettable experience this year. This festival is a collaboration between local musicians and the community. The festival featured a lineup of talented musicians: Alice Osbourne, Bridget Stockholm, Jamie Candiloro, Bill Wang, Shannon Carrol, Subra Doyle, High West Bluegrass, Jeremy Thomas, Mike McDonnell, David Galson, Max Marlowe, Steve Leonoudakis, and Mighty Mike Schermer and his band mates. A special thanks to Tahoe Truckee School Of Music for their contributions of production equipment, Black Cat Productions for assistance with the PA, Carl Davis and Jamie Candiloro for live sound production, Good Wolf Brewery for beer, and to all the individuals who made food and financial contributions during the event to the Sierra community house. “We really enjoy the intimate, personal and collaborative nature of hosting a music festival and it’s doubly rewarding when we can use it as a catalyst for collecting donations for your very critical organization”, said David.
Art Workshops: Promoting Self-Care & Mental Health Awareness
This July, a series of art workshops were held with a focus on self-care and mental health awareness. Thanks to Upstate California Creative Corp & California Arts Council we were able to partner up with a local artist, Astrid C. Mendieta. This project also involved a kid friendly coloring book that promotes healthy eating through a fun and endearing character named Señor Taquito! These adorable books were handed out at our food distribution in Kings Beach! A BIG thank you to Rocio for supporting this wonderful project.
Summer Family Room
The Summer Family Room is a fantastic opportunity for families to come together and create lasting memories. Held every week, this event offers a range of activities designed to engage both children and adults. From storytelling sessions and arts and crafts workshops to outdoor games, there is something for everyone. The Summer Family Room emphasizes the importance of bonding, and provides a space for families to relax, play, and learn together.
