We are thrilled to welcome Barbara Kane to our board of directors! With a deep passion for fostering equity and empowering the multilingual community, Barbara brings a wealth of experience and enthusiasm to Sierra Community House’s mission.

For the past 17 years, Barbara has served as the Translations and Bilingual Community Services Coordinator at the Tahoe Truckee Unified School District. Her work has centered on creating innovative engagement strategies and advancing equity through language access for the multilingual community.

“I have been deeply involved with our multilingual community, leading innovative engagement strategies and providing equity through language access,” Barbara shares.

What Inspired Her to Join the Board

Barbara has been a long-time supporter of our mission, especially our efforts to provide language access through programs like the Bilingual Stipend Testing and the Community Interpreter Training Program.

“I am deeply impressed by Sierra Community House’s work to support the multilingual community,” Barbara says. “Joining the board is an incredible opportunity to help expand these efforts and make a meaningful impact.”

Vision for the Future

Barbara is committed to fostering language access and ensuring every voice in the community is heard and empowered. Her dedication and expertise will be instrumental as we continue to expand our programs and outreach efforts.

Life Outside of Work

When she’s not championing language access, Barbara finds her greatest joy in being a mom. She and her husband are raising two teenagers and a dog, in the beautiful town of Truckee, where they enjoy the stunning natural surroundings. Barbara is also an avid winter sports enthusiast who loves skiing, making her perfectly at home in our mountain community.

We are so excited to have Barbara’s leadership and insight on our board. Her commitment to empowering the multilingual community will undoubtedly strengthen our efforts and help us create a more inclusive and equitable future for all. Click here to learn more about our Board of Directors.
