This October, the Prevention Program at Sierra Community House is excited to launch a brand-new initiative: Cyber Safety & Wellness Month. This initiative is designed to raise awareness about staying safe online and fostering healthier relationships with technology.

As our lives become increasingly connected to technology, it’s more important than ever to equip ourselves and our communities with the tools needed to navigate the digital world safely. However, we understand that true well-being extends beyond simply protecting our personal information online and being aware of the risks tech poses. That’s why this initiative also focuses on digital wellness – encouraging people of all ages to set boundaries with their devices, recognize when it’s time to unplug, and create space for offline connections and rest.

Throughout the month, we will share practical tips, resources, and events aimed at promoting cyber safety and mindful technology use. We are partnering with organizations such as the Placer County Office of Education, the Nevada Coalition to End Domestic and Sexual Violence, and the TTUSD to offer presentations for parents and caregivers on how to keep their children safe online. Additionally, the Tahoe Institute for Natural Science will host guided nature walks, offering opportunities to unplug and recharge through mindfulness and the beauty of nature. Whether you’re a parent, student, educator, or professional, there’s something for everyone to learn – and room for everyone to grow.

Check out our organizational calendar of events for details and updated listings. We hope to see you there. And stay tuned for tips on recommended activities families can enjoy together without technology.
