[June 2026] | North Lake Tahoe–Truckee – Sierra Community House is proud to reflect on the impact of a $400,000 grant from The Martis Fund, a collaborative project of Martis Camp landowners, DMB/Highlands Group (the developers of Martis Camp), Mountain Area Preservation (MAP), and Sierra Watch., which significantly strengthened our housing advocacy and support services over the past year. For more than a decade, The Martis Fund has been a steadfast supporter of Sierra Community House and our mission to serve local workers navigating persistent housing challenges in the Truckee and North Tahoe region.
This funding allowed Sierra Community House to sustain and expand eviction prevention efforts, provide direct financial assistance for rent and utilities, and deliver education around tenants’ rights and financial stability. Over the past year, Sierra Community House assisted hundreds of community members with rental, workforce housing, and utility assistance, awarding hundreds of thousands of dollars in direct payments toward housing costs.
“Housing is still the number one barrier facing working families in our region,” said Teresa Crimmens, Executive Director of Sierra Community House. “The Martis Fund’s continued partnership allows us to meet that need directly, whether that’s covering a rent payment to prevent an eviction or helping a family understand their rights as tenants. We’re grateful for a funder who understands that keeping people housed is one of the most effective things we can do for the long-term health of this community.”
In addition to direct assistance and eviction prevention, Sierra Community House’s multi-faceted approach includes benefit enrollment, household budgeting guidance, case management, and education around renters’ rights and responsibilities—services that are crucial to keeping families housed in one of California’s most cost-burdened regions.
This grant exemplifies the power of collaboration and the impact of investing in long-term solutions for housing insecurity.
