Last month, the Sierra Community House team took a break from the day-to-day to celebrate something big: seven years since the merger that created Sierra Community House. We called this gathering “Sierrabration,” and it was exactly what it sounds like: a day to slow down, have fun, and appreciate the people who make this work possible.
Bowling, team building, and (a lot of) good food
The day started with team-building activities designed to get people out of their usual departments and working alongside colleagues they don’t cross paths with every day. Whether that meant a little friendly competition or just a good laugh, the goal was simple: connect as people, not just coworkers.
From there, it was on to bowling. Turns out gutter balls are a great equalizer, no matter what your job title is.
And of course, no celebration is complete without great food. The team refueled together over a meal that felt more like a family gathering than a staff event.
Why it matters
Seven years ago, several organizations came together to form Sierra Community House, combining resources and expertise to better serve the North Lake Tahoe and Truckee community. That merger wasn’t just an organizational shift. It was a commitment to doing more for the people who rely on SCH’s programs, from hunger relief to victim services to family strengthening.
Seven years later, that commitment is still what drives the work every day. Sierrabration was a chance to pause and recognize the staff who show up for this community, day in and day out.
Here’s to seven years, and to the people who make Sierra Community House what it is.
