10 Questions for Anibal
What motivated you to join the North Tahoe Family Resource Center 10 years ago?
I’m originally from Argentina, from where I had come to Tahoe to live a couple of years before. I studied Political Science and developed most of my professional career there in the social services field, within non profits and government agencies. So, once established in the area, I learned from a volunteer – currently a co worker! -about the NTFRC and its story of service to this community. A Family Advocate position opened, and I thought that was just the right fit for me and what I always wanted from a job: purpose in service.
What has been your proudest moment during your time here?
Every time a community member chooses to walk up our door, feeling safe and knowing they will be supported in whatever challenge they’re facing.
How do you stay motivated and focused on the mission during challenging times?
I look back and reflect on all these years and the different circumstances we’ve gone through and how our team and leadership pushed the agency forward and made it thrive.
What’s a goal you’re still eager to achieve in your role?
I would love it if we could provide more support around individuals’ finances and how to develop skills that empower and allow folks to pursue their personal goals.
What are your hopes for the future of Sierra Community House?
That we keep attracting and retaining the great, passionate, talent that makes SCH such a unique and wonderful place to work.
What’s your favorite way to unwind after a busy day at work?
Go out for a run and enjoy the wonderful surroundings in Tahoe. Also, read a book and drink a glass of Bourbon, my favorite!
If you could have dinner with any three people, dead or alive, who would they be and why?
With my mom, who passed 9 years ago, so I could learn more about all the great things she did in life. Also with Mary, Mother of Jesus, the greatest hope, joy and protection for all of us. And lastly, with my 25 year old self, to let him know that things are going to turn out great!
What’s a hobby you’ve picked up or would like to pick up over the last decade?
I’ve been wanting to play the piano for many years now but haven’t found the chance.
What’s your go-to coffee or tea order to kickstart your day?
Black drip coffee is my morning essential.
What’s a memorable or funny moment you’ve experienced at Sierra Community House?
Once when as a part of the On The Verge leadership program I got to perform in front of a big audience a short monologue about my life experience.
