Last week, Sierra Community House hosted the Junta Regional de Programas Comunitarios en Español at Truckee’s Town Hall, bringing together local organizations and community members to share resources, foster collaboration, and empower our Spanish-speaking neighbors.

The event kicked off with a shared lunch, creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere where connections could flourish. Representatives from organizations across the North Tahoe/Truckee region, including TTUSD, Truckee Library, Tahoe Forrest Hospital, and more, shared updates and resources to support local families, strengthening our collective impact.

Inspiring Presentations and Valuable Resources

One highlight of the event was a presentation by Evelyn Mejia Ronquillo from the Tahoe Prosperity Center, who spoke on their different programs designed to help aspiring and established entrepreneurs thrive in our region.

Next, Sierra Community House’s legal team provided a powerful presentation on “Know Your Rights,” equipping our community with critical knowledge to protect and advocate for their families. Victoria Lezo-Fuerte, a member of the legal team, emphasized the importance of this session, “We are doing this presentation to give information to our community members facing uncertainty. One thing to know is that you have rights, even if you’re not a citizen.”

This gathering was a powerful reminder of the impact we can create when we come together to share resources, ideas, and support. By fostering connections and providing tools for empowerment, we are strengthening the foundation for a more equitable future in North Tahoe/Truckee.
