This April, we proudly celebrate Felicity Bravo’s 10-year anniversary as our Community Engagement Manager at Sierra Community House! For a decade, Felicity has been the heart and soul of our outreach efforts, fostering deep connections, empowering volunteers, and strengthening community partnerships. Her passion, dedication, and ability to bring people together have made a lasting impact on our mission and the lives of those we serve. 

10 Questions for Felicity 

What motivated you to join North Tahoe Family Resource Center 10 years ago?   

The need I saw in our beautiful Kings Beach community. After volunteering many hours at our local elementary school, I realized the community needed as much help outside of the school.  I’ve learnt to know our families, understand their strengths, their struggles and opportunities for growth.  I’m passionate about giving back to the community that saw my children grow. 

What has been your proudest moment during your time here?    

Running programs in both Truckee and Kings Beach every single day of the week has been my biggest joy! Our families strive when they have access to information and resources, through our engagement activities we provide many tools for individuals to be part of a positive change in the community. 

How do you stay motivated and focused on the mission during challenging times?   

Keeping an eye on the vision and the big picture!  also adjusting the sails when needed.  The pandemic has been incredibly challenging for both our team, the community we serve and the agency.  Together we came through as stronger and more resilient. 

What’s a goal you’re still eager to achieve in your role?    

The integration of those voices and folks that are most in need of our services but are also the most challenging to reach out to.  Community outreach is an ongoing process that never ends.  Every project we work on is like a brand new one.  Our program constantly adapts to the needs of the community. 

What are your hopes for the future of Sierra Community House?    

To continue to make a positive impact in our community through strengthening our programs, evolving in our program integration projects and devotion to serving our North Tahoe community as whole. 

What’s your favorite way to unwind after a busy day at work?    

Yoga, fun winter and summer activities, such as skiing and paddle boarding.  A busy day at work is my biggest joy! We like to stay busy when it comes to education, outreach and prevention. :) 

If you could have dinner with any three people, dead or alive, who would they be and why?  

It’s hard to choose! I will say Carl Jung, Nelson Mandela and Maya Angelou… “I’ve learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel.” As we do this job every day, with modesty and integrity, we should all keep those words in mind. 

What’s a hobby you’ve picked up or would like to pick up over the last decade?  

I would like to evolve in my photography and writing adventures. 

What’s your go-to coffee or tea order to kickstart your day?  

Green tea plus morning meditation at home, 6 am sharp! 

What’s a memorable or funny moment you’ve experienced at Sierra Community House?  

There are probably too many! Funny moments fill my every day while interacting with my team, an amazing group of resilient, strong individuals, we constantly embrace sense of humor.  In terms of a memorable moment, I would say how well we adapted to virtual work during the pandemic times.  Meeting with the team every Monday allowed me to realize how strong we were and how connection allowed us to keep sailing through the storm.  Long story short, we had to almost reinvent the whole program during those times.
