Sierra Community House is happy to welcome back Deidre Ledford Martin. With a long history of leadership and heart-centered service in our community, Deidre returns to the team in a new role, bringing her dedication and deep understanding of our mission full circle. Deidre served as Executive Director of Project MANA for 3.5 years, and following the merger, continued with Sierra Community House as Operations Director for another 3.5 years.

What is your position at Sierra Community House and can you describe what you do in your role?

As the Fiscal and Grant Compliance Coordinator, I handle payroll documentation, manage accounts payable and receivable, and support grant compliance, budget management, and grant reporting.

What drew you to work at Sierra Community House?

As a former team member of one of the four organizations that merged to become Sierra Community House—and a key player in the integration of Project MANA—I hold this agency close to my heart. I’ve seen firsthand the profound impact it has on our community and the value of the services we provide. After a three-year professional hiatus to raise my son, there’s no organization I’d be more honored to return to and contribute my passion for public service.

What does “community” mean to you?

To me, ‘community’ means showing up for one another—with empathy, consistency, and shared responsibility. It’s about building connections that go beyond individual needs and recognizing that our well-being is tied to the well-being of others. I’ve seen the power of community both professionally—through my work in hunger relief and social services—and personally, as a parent who’s leaned on others during big life transitions. Community isn’t just where we live; it’s how we care, collaborate, and grow together.

What is your favorite part about living in Tahoe, near the mountains/near the lake?

My favorite part about living in Tahoe is the deep connection to nature—it’s both calming and invigorating at the same time. Whether it’s a quick walk by the lake, a snowy morning in the mountains, or just watching the seasons change, being surrounded by this landscape reminds me to slow down and appreciate the little things. It’s also an amazing place to raise a child, with so many opportunities to explore, play, and learn outside.

How do you prioritize self-care?

I prioritize self-care by recharging in ways that support both my well-being and my family’s. I focus on preparing nutritious meals, getting adequate sleep, and making time to get outside every day. I also fit in exercise when I can, whether it’s a jog or some stretching. These consistent practices help me stay energized and grounded, so I can be my best for both work and my family.

What are you the most hopeful about when you think about the work Sierra Community House does in the community?

I’m most hopeful about the positive and lasting impact Sierra Community House has on individuals and families in our community. The way the organization brings people together to address critical needs like food security, housing, and mental health support is truly inspiring. What excites me most is the potential to create a supportive environment where everyone feels valued and empowered to thrive. I’m hopeful that, through our work, we can continue to strengthen the fabric of this community and help make lasting change for those who need it most.

We’re so excited to have Deidre Ledford Martin back at Sierra Community House! Her return feels extra special because of the strong connection she already has to our mission and community. Join us in welcoming her to the team! We can’t wait to see the impact she’ll continue to make.
