We are excited to welcome Kurt Heisinger to the Sierra Community House Board of Directors! With a strong background in finance and a passion for community service, Kurt brings valuable expertise to support our mission. His commitment to financial stewardship will help ensure our programs remain sustainable and impactful for the North Tahoe/Truckee community.

Can you tell us a bit about your professional background and what led you to join our board?

As a business professor at Sierra College in Truckee, I’ve been fortunate to connect with our local community through my students, colleagues, and friends. Before teaching, I began my career as a CPA and later earned my MBA with the goal of teaching at the community college level. I’m thrilled to join the Sierra Community House board because I admire the work this organization does, especially with hunger relief, family support, community engagement, and violence prevention education. These programs have a real and meaningful impact on the people I see every day in our community.

What do you look forward to contributing to Sierra Community House Board?

I have experience in business, specifically accounting and finance, and I look forward to using this skillset to support Sierra Community House. In addition, I’ve served as president of the North Tahoe Middle and High School band booster club and as an adult leader for the Tahoe City Boy Scout troop. Both roles have given me valuable experience in community leadership, youth development, and volunteer coordination. These experiences have deepened my connection to the community and strengthened my desire to contribute in more meaningful ways. I’m committed to supporting local families and helping ensure community members have access to essential services. I’m honored to be part of an organization that plays such a vital role in building a strong and connected community.

What does an inclusive, safe, and healthy community mean to you? How do you envision Sierra Community House making this possible for North Tahoe/Truckee?

A strong community is one where everyone feels welcome, safe, and respected, and where all community members have their basic needs met with dignity. I believe Sierra Community House plays a crucial role in making this vision a reality by connecting individuals and families with the resources and support they need to feel empowered and connected with their community.

What are your hobbies or interests outside of work?

I love spending time outdoors and enjoy mountain biking, cross-country skiing, running, camping, and spending time on the waters of Lake Tahoe.

Can you share a fun fact about yourself that might surprise us?

I play trombone in the local community band. It’s a fun way to stay connected, make music, and be active in the community.

As Sierra Community House continues to grow and serve more individuals and families, Kurt’s financial insight will play a vital role in strengthening our organization. We are grateful for his dedication and look forward to the positive impact he will make. Welcome, Kurt! To learn more about Sierra Community House’s Board of Directors, click here.
