At Sierra Community House, we’re fortunate to have passionate leaders driving our mission to serve the community. One of those leaders is our new Hunger Relief Manager, Lauren Fisher. With her dedication and expertise, Lauren ensures that our food distribution programs run smoothly, providing nutritious meals to those who need them most.

Lauren is not new to the non-profit world. She has been working with non-profits since 2007 while pursuing degrees in Community and Environmental Studies. Over the years she has worked to address food sovereignty, nutrition insecurity and environmental education with non-profits such as The White Earth Land Recovery Project, Sierra Harvest and Gateway Mountain Center as well as spending the last 5 years working in grocery retail as the Sustainability Coordinator at BriarPatch Food Coop. Her role at Sierra Community House draws from all experiences to help increase food rescue and distribution throughout North Tahoe.

When we asked Lauren, “What do you see as the biggest challenges in combating hunger today?”. She said, “Wealth inequality and the increasing wage gap along with a food system designed for profit rather than people and the planet. Sierra Community Houses Hunger Relief Program aims to reduce the financial burden of food shopping by provide community members with supplemental nutrition such as fresh fruits, vegetables, and proteins all while rescuing and redistributing food that would otherwise go to waste.”

With the addition of Lauren to the team, the Hunger Relief team is expanding and implementing ways to reach more families, provide volunteer opportunities, and truly serving the community. Lauren brings a wealth of experience and a deep sense of empathy to her role, making her an invaluable part of our team.

The Hunger Relief team with the support of many individuals, works daily to alleviate hunger in our region. To learn more about our programs or get involved, visit Hunger Relief – Sierra Community House.
